Originally we had planned to go to Cody, Wyoming next by leaving Yellowstone and going to Red Lodge via Bear Tooth Highway which is highly touted as a "must see" ride on a motorcycle or even in a car. However, significant amounts of rain with more on the way made us realize that bypassing the Bear Tooth Highway ride that I had planned in favor of a shorter route to Cody, Wyoming would be necessary. We stopped at Yellowstone Motorhed (an aftermarket Harley accessories, etc. store) to get a quart of oil for my bike. My first thought after visiting other stores in the area was "oh boy, can't wait to see how high the price will be here". Sure was nice to find the price was the same or lower than any other Harley or aftermarket shop that does not have a monopoly on it! The owner (Craig) was a ton of help to us. Not only did I get the oil at a fair price, Craig went the extra mile of throwing in a map with directions written out for us as because of the pending rain, we were looking for a shorter yet still scenic route to Cody. Nick II ended up buying a couple of shirts and things (again at reasonable prices). Bottom line is, if you want great biker service without being ripped off, go see Craig and Terri Menzel at Yellowstone Motorhed or check them out at their website.

We headed out via Mammoth Hot Springs to Tower Junction down Chief Joseph Highway which as Craig said is a beautiful ride. We got a few sprinkles of rain but not much. We rolled into Cody, Wyoming and our first impression was "this doesn't look so great". Well first impressions were very wrong!

We stayed at the Buffalo Village Cabins. They are very reasonable and you could not find a nicer bunch of people if you tried. Be sure to stop in the General Store and share stories with the folks there, what a treat! In fact, everyone we met in Cody was not just nice, but they were incredibly nice! Wyoming was very different from what we are used to. We went to get Nick II some beer and me some diet cokes and all the liquor stores had drive up windows and a bar inside where you could drink your purchases! The grocery stores are not allowed to sell alcohol so you make one stop for groceries and another for alcohol. There were people driving their kids around in the back of pick up trucks and kids on quads respectfully riding on the streets! No harassing by the cops about these things. No silly laws restricting your life, as long as you are responsible and respectful of others!
